Downlink Packet Data Scheduling for Wireless WCDMA Systems

We recently proposed a method to control the downlink packet flow at the base station of CDMA wireless net works [1] where we maximize data throughput while ensuring fairness among users. In this work, we propose a different approach to adjust fairness among users within a cell. Moreover, we investigate important issues for realistic implementations. We take into consideration mobility and consider multi-rate transmissions in a multi-cellular environment. The results show that the algorithm accommodates handoff in a natural manner and ensures fairness among users of the same sector. For unequal load among sectors of adjacent cells, we also propose an approach to adjust fairness among users of different sectors.
