Performance of Trellis Coded Hybrid ARQ Schemes over ISI Channels

In this paper, we propose two hybrid automatic repeat request (ARQ) schemes for intersymbol interference (ISI) channels. The proposed schemes employ bandwidth efficient trellis coded modulation (TCM) for error correction and cyclic redundancy check (CRC) codes for error detection. Viterbi algorithm is used to perform both equalization and TCM decoding. The throughput performance of the proposed hybrid ARQ schemes is evaluated for several ISI channels. The results show that the throughput of the proposed ARQ schemes on ISI channels is comparable to their throughput on AWGN channel with no ISI.
