Finite Element Analysis of Roller Burnishing Process

Basic mechanism of roller burnishing is analyzed by simulating the deformation processes of the material at surface layer of work piece. In the analysis a FEM method is adopted with ABAQUS /standard. Though the analysis deformation process in roller burnishing and the influence of burnishing conditions on the behavior of metal flow, which causes some residual stress in the machined surface, are investigated. Also, some roller burnishing experiments were conducted on internal surface of SUS304 cylinder with various burnishing conditions in order to compare with the analytical results. Both analytical and experimental results agreed well with each other.
