Abstract

2D Electrophoresis (2D-E) is an efficient and reliable technique that has been widely used to separate proteins by the bioscientists. The automatic 2D-E gel image analysis is one of the most important applications of the image understanding theory in the life science field. Its purpose is to offer the bioscientists quantitative evidence for the further research in fast speed and high accuracy. Based on the data processing theory, this paper presents a novel approach to quantify the protein spots, and the quality control of the quantization is given as well. Experiments show that the proposed method can eliminate the defects caused by the noise and yield the accurate results.
