Abstract

Parallel inverters in the microgrid/hybrid energy system provide system redundancy, reduced rating of power electronic converters, energy-sharing option and high reliability during critical demands. Voltage and frequency control can be accomplished without the requirement of any common control and communication among the inverters in the conventional droop control method (CDCM). Due to system disturbances and component mismatches, the CDCM has limitations like unbalance sharing of accurate real and reactive power among the inverters with equal per-unit impedance and significant voltage drop. In this paper, the modified droop control method (MDCM) based on the RMS voltage setpoint is analysed for following improvements in optimal sharing of active and reactive power, frequency response and droop effect. This model promises robustness, reliability and stability in a microgrid.
