Control of Paper Moisture using Impingement Drying

A dynamic behavior of impingement drying is examined in this paper. Dynamic relations between the drying variables and the paper moisture are determined and a comparison between conventional cylinder drying is provided. A feedforward control scheme is developed in order to decouple interaction between the impingement velocity and the impingement temperature. Impingement drying is integrated with conventional cylinder drying and a control strategy is developed to the control of paper moisture. The proposed control scheme is studied by simulation and the simulation results are compared with the simulation results of the present control scheme.
