A Psycholinguistics-based Parsing Model and Prototype

This paper presents a syntactic parsing model and its im plemented prototype which use psycholinguistic knowl edge to guide the parsing process and obtain the most probable analysis of an input sentence. We develop a se rial model with reanalysis. Parsing is carried out incre mentally and data-driven, but some top-down processing is also included. Cases of reanalysis are studied, and the mechanism for reanalysis comprises diagnosis and repair. The implemented prototype covers many basic and ad vanced structures of English. Testing shows an encourag ing result: the execution time seems to grow linearly with the input length.
