Performance Analysis of the CSMA/CA Protocol for the IEEE 802.11 DCF

This paper proposes a new performance analysis method for the IEEE 802.11 Distribution Coordination Function (DCF) based on the CSMA/CA. For the analysis of col lisions and retransmissions in the DCF, this paper uses the transmission probability. A newly proposed transmission interval includes collisions and retransmissions which are calculated from the transmission probability. The proposed transmission interval takes account of the retransmissions by packet errors, and makes it possible to analyze the max imum throughput and utilization of the DCF in the Basic Service Set (BSS).
