Application of Lebesgue Space Filling Curve in Progressive Image Transmission

This paper presents a new progressive image transmission scheme based on the Bit-Plane Method (BPM) utilizing the Lebesgue space-filling curve scanning order. The new scheme involves a preprocessing step of the image in which the two dimensional matrix representation of the image is mapped onto a one dimensional array using the Lebesuge space-filling curve. With the presented approach it is possible to achieve a better image quality in a shorter transmission time.
