Automated Image Segmentation and Analysis of Microscopic Images of Polymeric Blends

The aim of this work is to analyze, extract and measure attributes of particles in a multi-phase polymeric material imaged through a transmission electron microscope. The particles exhibit two types of characteristics: they may be simple structures with clearly defined particles or they may be particles with diffused boundaries. Two methods will be described that address these cases separately. The methods were efficient in extracting the particles accurately from the background matrix. Features of these extracted particles were then analyzed to understand and quantify the properties of the polymeric blend
