Fuzzy Logic Approach for Surface Quality Control in Cylinder Machining Systems

The last manufacturing phase of paper machine rolls is grinding, after which the surface is smooth enough for manipulating the paper web in paper making process. Grinding process is sensitive to roll bending vibrations, which phenomenon will dramatically decrease the roughness quality of roll surface. It has been introduced a new vibration control approach based an fuzzy logic, which will modify the running parameters of grinding process in rule-based intelligent way so that vibration amplitudes will be reduced significantly. This approach has been developed and implemented in a case study, the results of which are shown.
