This paper discusses the patterns of cross references between search topics. It focuses on two case studies on the ACM digital library ( and the Yahoo search engine ( Many digital libraries and search engines organize their contents in a hierarchical structure. Our study shows that a lot of cross references match the subtopics relationships but there are also a lot of cross references outside these relationships. We developed a model of Bayesian Networks based on significant cross-topic references and discuss how it can be used to enhance the incremental relevant feedback and the metasesarch engine
