From Lecturing to Distance Learning in Cross-Border Education

This paper describes our effort to develop our cross-border education program between Finland and Russia towards multimodal distance education. In this paper, we propose a realistic solution for equal collaboration between two dif ferent systems. The solution takes into account the het erogenous educational infrastructures, different teaching practices and unequal student profiles of both countries. We will describe a technical solution as well as a course structure. We also present the results from two courses in which this solution has been applied. According to the results, we have managed to develop an environment that meets our requirements.
