Abstract

This paper describes a floor-controlled centralized conference system being developed for LARC distance learning tool. Although centralized conferences do not scale well, they are a reasonable solution for small and medium-sized conferences, mainly in cases where multicast traffic is not supported. Floor control is a suitable methodology for coordinating access to continuous media resources, such as audio and video channels, in the classroom environment paradigm, resolving resource conflicts and race conditions, guaranteeing their mutually exclusive use.
