Abstract

This paper compares packet-diversity techniques for various error-detecting and correcting schemes. The arrangements analyzed combine forward error correction (FEC) using turbo-codes with automatic repeat request (ARQ) methods. The soft output of the turbo decoding process provides a measure of the reliability of a decoded packet, this enables packet diversity to be employed, whereby bits from more than one version of a received packet are combined to optimize error correction. Simulation results show that packet diversity with CRC error-detection provides good BER performance relative to other methods considered.
