In this paper, dynamic modeling and PI control of thrust force in drilling of composite materials are studied. Vari ation of model parameters such as process gain and major time constant are investigated. Conventional PI controllers are designed and evaluated based on this model. Simula tion and experimental results show that the resulted model captures accurate dynamics for the thrust force in drilling of composite materials. It can be used to develop and evaluate other advanced force controller for the drilling process.
