Photorealistic Rendering of 3D Objects by Simultaneous Estimation of Reflectance and Illumination

We present an approach for photorealistic rendering of new views of 3D objects and to freely navigate within a scene using real 2D and 3D image data to determine an original geometry and lighting configuration. Using an active depth and a passive stereo sensor, we compute the object shape, reflection properties and the light source parameters. These components are then represented in a VRML format for rendering. The work is demonstrated on a synthetic data set for which ground truth is known precisely, and on real image data.
