In this paper, we propose a new approach for optimization in wavelet-based image watermarking using genetic algorithm. The watermark insertion and watermark extraction are based on the code division multiple access (CDMA) techniques and does not need the original image in the watermark extraction process. We have developed an optimization technique using the genetic algorithm to search for optimal strength of the watermark in order to improve both quality of watermarked image and robustness of the watermark. The experimental results show that the proposed algorithm produces watermark which is invisible to human eyes and robust to JPEG compression, and common image processing attacks.
