Increasing the Electrical Power of Alternators – Numerical Simulation Approach

This paper presents a model of a claw-pole alternator with its rectifier bridge based on the simulation tool Microsim-PSpice. Different control strategies for increasing the alternator's output power are implemented in this model and the simulation results are discussed. The performance of the whole system, alternator and rectifier bridge, is compared and evaluated for these control strategies, taking into account the characteristic parameters such as power, efficiency and DC-current rip ple over the whole speed range. Finally, a simple control strategy is found, which increases the alternators output power at low cost level.
