Mutual Coupling Analysis of a Spherical Array Antenna

Conformal arrays with high degrees of symmetry can be analysed with rigorous modal methods. In this paper we show how modal techniques can be used for the analysis of a spherical array and more in particular, its mutual cou pling effects. With the presented formalism, the radiation properties of spherical arrays can be fully characterised, as has been done extensively for planar and circular arrays. With an example we illustrate how to fit design specifics in the model. This paper builds further on the spherical modal analysis of radiating apertures we published recently[1].
