Spherical Wideband Measurement System for Mobile Terminal Antennas

This paper presents a spherical, wideband test system for determining the radiation characteristics of mobile termi nals. The system can be operated at a frequency range of 0.8 – 3 GHz and it provides a complex three-dimensional radiation pattern at a single frequency in 3 seconds. Rota tion of the device under test during the measurement is not required. Due to a fixed and relatively small number of measurement locations, the measurement uncertainty is dependent on the electrical size of the device under test. The test measurements show that for a typically sized mobile terminal, the measurement results are reliable up to about 2 GHz.
