Simple Timing Acquisition of Ultra Wideband Signals in the Multipath Channel

A new simple timing acquisition method for Ultra Wide-Band (UWB) signals in multipath fading environments is proposed in this paper. In UWB systems, every information symbol consists of repeated pulses over several frames, whose intervals are unique from user to user. By using this property, the proposed method correlates currently received signal with time-delayed one for expected maximum delay, while the conventional methods correlate currently received signal with known transmitted signal for all possible time-delays. The results show that the correlator output of the new method is larger than that of the conventional one and more reliable.
