A new approach to sailboat self-steering task based on the use of neural networks is attempted. Aim of the proposed strategy is to emulate the human steering capabilities carried out by an expert helmsman. This has been achieved using two neural networks at the same time: a first neural network is devoted to provide the boat desired response (reference) and a second neural network (neural controller) which reproduces the inverse dynamic of the boat providing the proper rudder angle law.
