An Optimized Host-Control Scheme for Smooth Handovers

Mobile IP provides a method to support hosts mobility across different wireless access networks. Several handover schemes, such as smooth handover and fast handover, have been proposed to improve the handover performance of mobile IP. In this paper, an optimized smooth handover scheme was presented to solve packets loss problem with mobile IPv6. In the optimized scheme, host-control model was adopted and an retrenched structure was described. Based on the analysis of messages' time sequence, the pre-configurable parameters with the correspondent formulas were expressed. Finally, the simulation results demonstrated that the optimized scheme can get better performance in smooth handovers.
