Photonic Gateways: 40 Gbit/s Bi-lateral Multiplexing Format Conversions of OTDM-WDM-OTDM and OCDM-WDM-OCDM

Photonic gateways, which perform the bi-lateral conversion and reconversion of multiplexing format, are proposed. 40 Gbit/s (4 x 10 Gbit/s) OTDM-to-WDM-to OTDM conversions and OCDM-to-WDM-to-OCDM conversions are experimentally demonstrated. The experimental scheme is based upon ultrafast photonic processing both in the time domain and frequency domain. Thus, the possibility of ultra-high speed operation features this photonic conversion scheme in the future photonic networks.
