Abstract

This paper compares the performance of a class of fault tolerant partial-connection high-speed switching LANs with the traditional complete-connection high-speed switching LANs. The result of network simulations shows that given a fixed number of processors and connections (approximately the same system construction cost), this partial-connection scheme provides both better performance and better fault-tolerance than the traditional complete-connection scheme. This paper also demonstrates that given a fixed number of processors and switches, the partial-connection scheme performs comparably to the more costly complete-connection scheme with less number of connections.
