Fault Location in Underground Power Cables Using Artificial Neural Networks

This paper presents a new approach for fault location in underground cables based on neural networks. For detection and location of a fault, the voltage and current of sending end of the cable are used. Two types of simulation are concerned for the system under study, one with the EMTDC software using the Bergeron model for cable and the other MATLAB software using the Pi model. The results of case studies show the capability of neural networks in fault location with negligible error.
