This paper presents a fast speed motoin estimation algorithm that utilizes so called elementary motion detectors or EMDs. The speed mode or relative speed of a given global or local motoin can be estimated by combining multiple EMDs into an EMD set sharing the same recep tor pair. Global speed modes are computed by aggregating local speed mode results. The developed algorithm is found to provide satisfactory global speed mode estimation results.
