Abstract

This paper describes common problems of high quality perceptual audio coders implemented for two-way telecommunication applications. ISO/MPEG-4 V2 Low Delay AAC codec is proposed solution for high audio quality, while maintaining very low algorithmic delay. This was achieved by performing several algorithmic modifications (shorter frame length, removal of block switching, new window shape and reduced bit reservoir) - but with keeping all relevant MPEG-4 AAC coding tools (TNS, Prediction and PNS). The results achieved by optimized software implementation of the high-quality real-time AAC-LD codec, are presented in this paper.
