Abstract

This paper provides an overview of universal multimedia information access as a concept for accessing multimedia content through a variety of possible schemes. Universal multimedia access (UMA) protocols as well as UMA network architecture are discussed. In order to support advanced multimedia services a multimedia network architecture using the third generation code division multiple access (CDMA) is presented. The information data rates of CDMA2000 can handle multimedia packet data with current compression standards for video and audio. As a signalling protocol Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) is used.
