Comparison Between JPEG and JPEG2000 Still Image Compression Standard

Abstract

JPEG2000 is the latest image compression standard emerging from the JPEG Group. This new standard offer higher compression performance compared to JPEG. This article provides an overview of the two standards JPEG and JPEG2000, as well as a comparison between them for different compression schemes (reversible and non reversible, baseline and progressive). The over performance of the new standard in almost all features will be outlined.
