A System to Evaluate Wasted Electric Energy based on Virtual Reality Techniques

This paper presents how Virtual Reality techniques can be explored to simulate electrical energy waste in domestic houses. A prototype system has been developed to evaluate the proposed techniques. In this system, a virtual house with electric equipments is built using VRML. The objective is to allow a user interact with these virtual electric devices and to educate him by evaluating how much of electrical energy is consumed through this experiments. Real time simulations of the objects consumption and funcionality is achieved by updating the virtual world with scripts in Javascript. The system has been presented to potential users and the results of their evaluation are also presente in the paper.
