Abstract

The paper describes the main preliminary findings of a study on the uses of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in the educational field in Argentina, Costa Rica, Ecuador and Mexico. The objective of the research project was to document and analyze the experiences and research reports generated on this topic from 1998 to 2003. The variables of the study were the following: (a) socio-economic context and educational system; (b) technological infrastructure; (c) policies and ways of incorporating new technologies; and (c) experiences in the use and incorporation of technologies in the educational scenario. This paper focuses on the description of the main projects and programs related to ICT in each country and on the discussion of some of their limitations and problems.
