3D Modelling and Simulation of Toroidal Transformers

It is important to know the thermal behaviour of an electric transformer for an optimized design as well as for a right choice with the aim to supply in good conditions different customers. A 3D thermal model was developed in order to study the temperature distribution for a toroidal transformer. In this model the thermal behaviour of the transformer depends on the design of the magnetic circuit, the material parameters and the ambient conditions. It was shown the temperature distribution through a cross section of the toroidal transformer. The simulated temperatures were compared with measured ones at defined points on the outside insulation.
