An hardware real time implementation of a new approach to sailboat self-steering task based on the use of neural networks is presented. Aim of the proposed strategy is to emulate the human steering capabilities carried out by an expert helmsman. In order to check the effectiveness and feasibility of the proposed approach in terms of hardware requests, two different real time implementations using a dSpace hardware and a low cost DSP platform have been performed.
