Progress in Acceleration Techniques in Contrast-Enhanced MRA

Recently various methods have been discussed which provide a reduction of acquisition time or “acceleration” of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). The acceleration is provided by using multiple receiver coils to simultaneously sample the MRI signal. Differences in coil response provide independent measurements of net signals superimposed from multiple points in the object. Algebraic inversion allows for determination of the individual signals. This process can be extended from single-slice to volumetric (3D) imaging by applying the acceleration techniques along multiple directions. When applied to the imaging of contrast-enhanced vasculature, the techniques can provide not only a reduction of acquisition time but also an improvement in image quality. This work provides an overview of the technique as well as examples of the application.
