A Boosting Algorithm for Crater Detection

Impact craters are an important source of information about the geology of planets and their surface age. The detection of craters is however a cumbersome task which is manu ally performed in most cases. This paper proposes a frame work for the automatic detection of craters using a Pattern Recognition approach. The proposed framework is tested on a set of 101 images obtained with Mars Orbital Camera (MOC) from Mars Global Surveyor (MGS) probe. The re sults compare favourably with a state of the art algorithm.
