Dual-Permeability Modelling of Three-Dimensional Water Flow at a Clayey Field

A three-dimensional, distributed process model was developed to simulate the flow patterns at a subsurface drained, clayey field. The overland flow was simulated with a sheet flow approach with kinematic wave approximation. A dual-permeability model was used to simulate the subsurface flow. The dynamic nature of clayey soil was taken into account with a simple soil shrinkage and swelling model. Data from a subsurface drained clayey field in southern Finland was used to develop and test the model.
