A Look-Ahead Interpolation of Continuous Small Line Segment Contour based on Transition Patterns

Abstract

To implement high-speed interpolating of continuous small line segment contour, a novel feedrate planning scheme is proposed. The scheme consists of three steps. First, transition patterns are defined based on the change law of lines to describe the curvature characteristic of the contour. Second, turning feedrate is optimized according to the curvature characteristic. Third, feedrate planning is performed based on the cube fit of turning points. The scheme enables feedrate to change inversely with the curvature, and the feedrate profile is continuous and smooth. Thus both the efficiency and dynamic performance are improved when interpolating the continuous small line segment contour.
