Research on the understanding of heart functions using contemporary computer graphics and biomechanics has attracted an increasing attention from the research community. In this paper, we survey the recent methods on both geometric modeling and computer simulation of the human heart. We will start with an overview of the primary surface and volumetric models used in the simulation and visualization of the human heart. This will be followed by an introduction of different heart simulation techniques that include the finite element method, meshless method, finite volume method, and boundary element method. Finally we will discuss some future research directions.
