: Microscopic examination of the Pap smear is the standard procedure for detection of cervical cancer. The procedure is repetitive and prone to error because of heavy dependence on eye estimation. This paper describes a low-cost image processing software developed for automating the process using rigorous measurement. While it does not envisage replacing the cytopathologist, it certainly is a supplementary tool in his hands.
