Abstract

In this paper, we present an innovative streaming system for MPEG-4 Scalable to Lossless Coding (SLS) audio. In the proposed system, the scalability feature of SLS audio is fully utilized to create streamable MP4/M4A files and build up an adaptive streaming system. In the MP4/M4A file, a streamable dynamic track is generated to host the lossless audio. In the streaming server, the conventional streaming process is extended to deliver data packets adaptively with the knowledge of real-time network bandwidth. The proposed system has been utilized by the music streaming website songsofcampus (http://www.songsofcampus.com/). Since the first launch in July 2009, this website has received more than 4 million visits and very positive feedback. The system is believed to be the platform paradigm of the next generation system of streaming high quality music through the Internet.
