Designing Linear-Phase FIR Filters with Flat Passband and Optimal L1 Stopband

In this paper, we propose a design method of linear-phase FIR filters with flat response in the passband and optimal L1 response in the stopband. The proposed method is an efficient projection on convex sets (POCS) algorithm by using exponential prediction. The obtained filter results in the flattest amplitude response in the passband among filter based on L2 and L approximation error criterion. Moreover, it possesses the smallest overshoot around the stopband edge frequencies. Finally, we show an effectiveness of the proposed method by examples.
