Optimal Design of Transformer Considering Transient Thermal Model

Mostly, the design of the transformer about temperature applied steady-state thermal model. Since the isolated transformer which suitable for the Uninterruptible Power System (UPS) needs to take care of the transient thermal constraint. A numerical model within transient thermal simulation for the isolated transformer of UPS system has been established in this paper. The Genetic Algorithm (GA) was used as the optimization methodology to realize the optimal design for minimum cost. To evaluate the feasibility of the proposed approach, this research uses an actually 80kVA UPS isolated transformer as an example. The simulation results show that the efficiency, temperature rising and cost can be improved by modification the original design of the actually transformer.
