Abstract

Control system modelling and design in the complex delta domain using optimal frequency matching (OFM) is presented in this paper. The optimal frequency points (OFPs) are selected in the complex delta domain using genetic algorithm (GA). The design philosophy adopts Truxal method in an approximate sense and uses to match a set of OFPs of the reference model with that of the controlled system to compute the parameters of the controller. The design method yields low-order implementable rational controllers using output feedback. It further converges to its continuous-time counterpart from its discrete-time description at high sampling frequency highlighting the advantages of using delta operator in modelling and control. Examples are included to illustrate the efficacy of the method.
