Tuning of PID Controllers by using MEMETIC Algorithms

One of the most used algorithms in practical applications is the well-known PID controller, which reveals to be effective in the control of many industrial processes. In this work, we use the techniques of evolutionary computation in order to obtain optimum values for the PID controller parameters. For that, a combination of genetic algorithms (GAs) and local search function, is used. The resulting Memetic Algorithm (MA) provides superior performance than the GAs and other similar tuning techniques.
