A Behavioral Approach to Neuron Modeling

Neuron, Model, Simulation

Measuring the electrical signals of neurons is a time-consuming process, and information is often gathered from only a single neuron. As a solution, this paper proposes a circuit that emulates the electrical behavior of a neuron; specifically that of an action potential. The approach used is that of analog synthesis, which provides several distinct advantages over digital methods, being primarily that of continuous output over the discretized output of a digital system, and reduced computational intensity over a software simulation. This paper's focus is on a discrete component implementation that allows for superior debugging and adjustment. This paper covers the process by which the device was designed and checked. Finally, applications and ethical issues are discussed.
