Abstract

In this paper, the author had made an attempt to provide an exhaustive survey of the current research studies that take place in the field of flux-reversal machines (FRM), particularly addressing the reduction of cogging torque, which is found to be the major drawback of this machine. With this as focus, this paper examines the suitability of special geometries, varied from that of the adopted ones, in reducing the undesirable cogging torque of FRM. The major geometrical changes proposed are as follows: (i) stator–rotor pole arc variations, (ii) variation of length of air gap and (iii) variation of permanent magnet thickness. The simulation is validated through a practical machine.
