Abstract

This study analysed the influence of the hydrological cycle and the humidity on the behaviour of partial discharges (PD) in a hydrogenerator at the Tucuruı Hydroelectric Power Plant, located in a region with a hot and humid climate and a high rainfall index. Two capacitive couplers connected on the left and right side of the stator winding obtained the PD data in four measurements during the high- and low-water cycle. Exploratory analysis and statistical modelling showed that the highest occurrences of discharges occurred in the high-water cycle in small amplitudes from −100 to 100 mV, which may be caused by the increased effort of the hydrogenerator and the increased relative humidity in this period.
