Commercialization conditions of digital documents differ from those of tangible goods. Copyright protection during the distribution is a crucial issue in the trading of digital documents. Encapsulating the content with an encryption algorithm is a way of protecting digital documents. In this paper, an XML-based encapsulation model (XDEM) is proposed. Digital document distribution models based on the XDEM platform are able to provide adequate protection of copyright for information providers, meanwhile they provide users similar terms of rights on digital documents.
